Welcome to Natureglo's Art & Science eCenter (NASC)!
Meet Natureglo, an alternative educator
Natureglo has been teaching K-12 education since 1997 and holds a BA in K-12 education and certification from the Wilderness Awareness School. She's been teaching in private education since 1997, and homeschool students since 2010, when she began NASC. With a knack for educational alternative methods, Natureglo guides youth into an appreciation for the natural world. Natureglo considers herself more of a facilitator or mentor as she guides youth and adults to many rich resources which spark a natural curiosity.
A Day in the Life of a NASC Student
Classes begin with short instruction, opportunities for discussion, and student presentations. Students are given resources to explore self-guided studies from a "virtual library" of resources found on each class's website. Without tests, grades, or compulsory homework, students have time to study topics of their interest and choice within the subject. With student curiosity sparked, along with a banquet of resources, students come up with dynamic research projects, activities and experiences to share with their virtual classmates from around the world.

"Birds fly, fish swim, man thinks and learns. Therefore, we do not need to motivate children (or adults) into learning by wheedling, bribing or bullying. We do not need to keep picking away at their minds to make sure they are learning. What we need to do, and all we need to do, is bring as much of the world as we can into the school and classroom; give students as much help and guidance as they ask for; listen respectfully when they feel like talking; and then get out of the way. We can trust them to do the rest."

Natureglo's Art & Science Center (NASC), was founded by Gloria Brooks aka Natureglo on August 4, 2010. The eCenter originally began as a physical learning center on 112 acres of wooded land within an 1800's grain mill called "The Mill". The learning center's doors were opened with 11 homeschool youth on Thursday, September 2, 2010 for it's on-site Nature & Science Quest '10 (NASQ) at Heathcote Intentional Community in Freeland, MD. The current program consists of nine live online classes taught and facilitated by Natureglo, found on her class and publications page at CurrClick.com. Classes are taught in botany, zoology, nature awareness, math enrichment, with art integration.
NASC holds a wealth of resources with complimentary resource rich class websites or, as Natureglo calls them "virtual libraries". Upon enrollment in a NASC virtual class on CurrClick Live, each student receives access to all of the rich educational resources on CurrClick Live including a blog per class, access to forums, file sharing, and much more.
Much of Natureglo's photogprahy and videography for her online classes is done right in the great outdoor learning center in the beautiful West Virginian mountains and wherever Natureglo's travels bring her!
